As the director of the Lung & Sleep Institute, Abbas A. Omais, MD is known for helping patients who struggle from a multitude of chronic pulmonary and sleep disorders. Dr. Omais is currently accepting new patients at this White Plains, Maryland practice.
After completing his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of Washington in Seattle, Dr. Omais went directly into medical school. He earned his medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in Sint Maarten.
Dr. Omais then relocated to New York for his required postgraduate medical training. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at the New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens. To further gain hands-on training and experience, Dr. Omais went through a pulmonary medicine fellowship at the same hospital, then went to Wayne State University’s Detroit Medical Center for a critical care medicine fellowship training in Michigan.
Because Dr. Omais strives to offer the latest treatments the industry has to offer, he maintains multiple professional memberships. He’s a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and the American Society of Sleep Medicine, among others.
Dr. Omais is also board certified through the American Board of Internal Medicine. As a diplomate, he holds certifications in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, critical care medicine, and sleep medicine.
Since Dr. Omais affiliates with several Washington, DC-area hospitals, patients have plenty of options for treatment. He provides care at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, the Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, and the Western Maryland Health System in Cumberland, to name a few.
